So I've had a little less than a week to process our trip to Malaysia to train with grandmaster Chin Lik Keong, but I wanted to share some ideas/experiences.

Touching hands with the grandmaster it was immediately clear how sensitive his hands are. By the time I felt I had an opening and began to move (or really began the process that would end in me moving) Sigong would already be controlling my movement, or pushing/pulling me!

Most of the training we did was focused sticky hands training, very traditional type of training. Sigong demonstrated some methods for maintaining control from the upper hand, which was our focus the first day or so. Later he worked from the lower hand and showed some methods for attaining the upper hand. He suggested that if in training sticky hands the person on the bottom cannot achieve the upper hand in 4 attempts that means the person on top is doing a good job controlling and the partners should voluntarily switch position.

Sigong was insistent that we all work on loosening our shoulders. He had us spin, both with and without partners, very large circles to work on the shoulders. Very loose spinning.

Another big emphasis was moving in such a way that the "body" was not engaged. I.e. if I am maintaining the upper hand and my partner cuts inside, up to a certain point I can just control them but if I am too slow I will need to use the muscles of my torso to hold the person down. Any time this happened Sigong would use this strength to break the bridge and offbalance me.

After a few days master Sam Chin began to take a half hour or so in the morning and a half hour in the evening to discuss what we were learning with us, to help give context for how Sigong's training fits into the system.

I have more notes to write up but wanted to get started with this. The training was amazing and I am so thankful for the opportunity to meet and train with the grandmaster, it has really broadened my understanding of I Liq Chuan.

Hi all,   As Ben said , the

Hi all,

As Ben said , the training was 'old-school' style. The emphasis was on 'feeling' and spinning. We spent a lot of the time trying to learn the wrist and hand, Sijo would say 'empty the body, strength in the hands' (at least that's what I understoodSmile).

It became apparent to me that I needed to have a good understanding and ability of the basics (and this needs to be in place first). Sijo was so relaxed and his structure so refined that he could sense and redirect your movement with ease.

It is the 'I' - 'mind' that we were trying to capture and lead.

There were a number of drills that he had us do over, to feel certain things.

I must say that everyone was a joy to train with. It was really nice to meet so many that are looking at/for the same thing, it's easy for us in West Australia to feel a little isolated Wink.

What I was exposed to was a very high level of I Liq Chuan and a knowledge that it's all in the system, it's all there, in the DVD's, the syllabus, Sigong's book. I just need to look into it more, which is what I'm doing now......

thanks to all that were there

Steve

archive.iliqchuan.com complete - directions

Ftp repository archive.iliqchuan.com is complete

Ftp site = archive.iliqchuan.com

Username = ilcarchive

Email me for password kelley@iliqchuan.com

After you login. you can make a directory inside the '2010 Founders Workshop'. It should simply be called your name. Upload your videos, photos or whatever in there. This is your own area to do with as you please.

I'm uploading some media (40G) under 'Greg Hollick' and grouped by day.

Try not to delete or mess with any other folders in this repository outside of your folder.

We have quite a bit of space available, but it is not unlimited. Please upload just the good stuff. Take a bit of time to trim your videos. If you can't do so, upload it anyway and let us know.

It would be nice if anyone who looks through these videos after downloading could reply to this topic with the video timecode of the good bits. if we share the workload, we could end up with a very, very useful archive.

On a related note, I've been

On a related note, I've been thinking we should tweak the five star rating module to just like / dislike in line with what's pretty much just web standard at this point.

If people point me to the BEST segments of video, I cam convert to flash for embedding in the site media player. Then great segments of video can be made available to all site visitors (i.e. more great content on iliqchuan.com is great for everyone for a lot of different reasons).

You'll need an ftp client

You'll need an ftp client like dreamweaver or fire ftp (free) for FireFox. Not sure, but Google must have an ftp add on for chrome...

indicate location with video filename and time start and end.

uploaded video

FYI, I've uploaded basically all of my video from the Malaysia workshop to the ftp server.  I've only indexed maybe 40-50% of it.  I left a text file in my directory on the ftp server which describes what is in each clip that I've watched so far.

Update: I've managed to watch all the video and index it.  There's a description of each file in the vidindex text file.

Well I downloaded most of Greg's stuff and thought that my prepay would stop when run out, it didn't ! I then got a phone bill of $1110 !!!!!!!

I managed to get out of paying it in total and paid about $150, (that was some serious sweet-talkingSurprised)

So until I get a hardwired connection I haven't used ftp since.

I'd like the address though Kelley, maybe I'll go get a coffee and use the free internet.
