On June 6th, I Liq Chuan students, Wai Tang, Nancy Fiano, Justin, and Hsin Chin competes in the 2nd annual US Martial Arts Championship (scroll down for video clips). Hundreds of Martial Arts competitors and spectators attended the event at Queens College, New York. Master Sam Chin was invited to be a judge and to give a Master Demonstration.
Master Sam Chin's youngest son - Hsin Chin, competed in 3 events where he received 4 Gold medals - Sparring, Moving Push Hands, and Stationary Push Hands. In one of the event he received 2 Gold medals as his opponent forfeited, and Hsin requested to compete in the adults class. Hsin also competed in adult classes in all the other categories to avoid fighting with ILC schoolmate - Justin.

Wai Tang's 16 years old nephew - Justin, had only learn I Liq Chuan for 3 months competed in Stationary Push Hands & Moving Push Hands. He earned a Gold medal in Moving Push Hands, and Silver medal in Stationary Push Hands.

Overall, it was a successful outcome for I Liq Chuan, congratulations to all that competed.
Hsin's fighting clips:
RRRRRRRRRRRRR!! Yeap! So happy for you all! Congratulations to everybody! ^))))
Thank you all for trying to teach me this beautiful art. The tournament was so much fun. Don't worry though, your secrets are still safe! I'll keep at it until I understand. Most Sincerely, Nancy

what were the rules for sparring? could you only attack the body?
re: Dasha - actually i think that's kind o f a good angle after all for students so we can watch Sifu's mingmen and the back side of the hips very clearly to observe the use of mingmen and kua during fa jin.
Congratulations to Sifu, Hsin, Wai Tang, Nancy, Justin and all I-Liq-Chuan students all over the world !!!
Hsin, nice fight, keep it up !
I believe you are not allowed to hit straight in the face, on the side is fine. You get more points if you get him off the ring. Hsin was advised to hit his opponent like a punching bag, and not worry about blocking. In I Liq Chuan, we learn to propel force directly into oppenent's mass during training and it's apparent that Hsin's punches and kicks went right through his oppenent. This was a good 1st fighting experience for him.
Congratulations on the great results in the first competitions.
I've got a small question.
In I Liq Chuan, we learn to propel force directly into oppenent's mass during training and it's apparent that Hsin's punches and kicks went right through his oppenent.
Which of the centers of mass (upper or lower) is the primary target for the kicks?

Depends on the condition, but generally speaking - upper mass control the hands and lower mass control the legs. You could jam the lower mass to effect the upper mass, and vice versa. Hsin was adviced to knock his oppenent out off the ring. Since we are train in such a way that our punches and kicks effect the mass, Hsin had to just punch and kick his oppenent like a punching bag to push him out.

I see. Thanks for the explaination. I aslo wonder if the 3 engagement rules apply for the legs and lower mass as well, e.g. the "center with the cross" concept for the lower mass. Is it something we also try to do?

That was a great piece of advise, since the "battlefield" was quite small and sometimes only a few (or even one) punch or kick was enough to get the needed result.

I read your question to my dad and his immediate response was "Ofcourse!" Then he added "Center with cross applies EVERYWHERE!".
Hope that helps...

Yen, thank you very much. Yes, I've watched almost every available seminar videos and attended a few seminars myself, but have never seen the concepts of the 3 engagements or 4 qualities of the point of contact explained with the examples of legs.
And since the concepts seem to be universal, I wanted to verify that they also work for legs.
Thanks for your help
Well done and the clips of Hsin really show his power and accuracy. Great work.
Thanks guys. I just wish I could have fought more, I need experience. I'll be training for my next fight, hopefully coming soon. Looking for a sparring partner similar to my strength and size...anyone in NY area interested?
Hi Hsin,
You don't need a training partner similar to your strenght and size necessarily. You need one who is reliable and has a strong character.
Miro from Vienna
Yeah it might be hard to find one with the same strength and size

congratulation to all of you, keep it up! Hsin Chin!!
