Grading & Certification
The purpose of grading is to give each I Liq Chuan student the confidence of knowing that their skill at each level tested has been verified and validated by an officially authorized instructor.
With this validation, an I Liq Chuan student has the ability to go anywhere I Liq Chuan classes, workshops and seminars are held in the United States and throughout the world and be recognized and respected for the skills achieved.
Without this grading, an I Liq Chuan student, with no recognized standing in the system, would have no authoritative source to effectively answer any challenge of their opinions of, or instructions in the art of I Liq Chuan.
Grading takes place three times a year for New York students:
- February intensive
- I Liq Chuan Family Annual Picnic
- October workshop
For students outside of New York
- All grading will take place during the local workshops.

Instructor Certification Levels - read an outline of the instructor levels
In I Liq Chuan, teaching is an important learning tool. Once a student reaches a certain level of development they are encouraged to certify as instructors. Through teaching, students are able to recognize the depth of their own understanding while also increasing their accuracy when feeding energy during training or demonstration. Another important opportunity afforded by teaching is the opportunity to refine one's moral qualities. It is only with the right mental effort, that a truly high skill may be acheived.
Instructors are certified to teach those aspects of the I Liq Chuan System for which they have been certified and may hold themselves out as Certified Instructors. All instructors must have their certification renewed every two years.
